BMW 220d Review

I am a huge fan of the BMW 2 Series (F22) design, that car is perfect in my eyes. So for BMW to get it perfect, we had to wait and see what they came up with. I don’t know if the same design team who worked on the F22 model, worked on this one because this design is not an immediate hit like the previous one. It takes time to get used to and it’s longer than the previous model. One thing that has been consistent though, is that the BMW 2 series is one hell of a fun car.

BMW is opening a new chapter in its tradition of super-sporty compact models. In the process, it will set a new benchmark for driving pleasure – a brand specialty – at the premium end of this vehicle class. The new BMW 2 Series Coupé embodies sporting prowess in a mainly concentrated form, with a vehicle concept focused squarely on dynamic excellence, an athletic design, powerful engines, and sophisticated chassis technology. Its standalone appearance, a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine at the sharp end of the line-up, rear-wheel drive, and chassis components carried over from the BMW 4 Series put clear water between the new BMW 2 Series Coupé and the compact BMW 1 Series, while also laying the foundations for performance attributes beyond the reach of any segment rival. The new BMW 2 Series Coupé, therefore, follows in the tyre tracks of the legendary BMW 02, which, 55 years ago, lit the fuse for the brand’s recent history of compact and irresistibly sporty two-door models.

The fresh, youthful and extroverted aura of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé is complemented by thoroughly engineered and perfectly balanced driving attributes. Its vehicle concept is geared squarely to offering agile and precisely controllable handling in highly dynamic situations.
Compact dimensions, intelligent lightweight design for the body and chassis, an up to 12 percent increase in static torsional rigidity compared to the predecessor model, almost perfect 50:50 weight distribution and optimised aerodynamics create an ideal blueprint for a vehicle character majoring in sporting excellence. The agility, steering precision, and cornering dynamics of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé represent a significant step forward from the predecessor model. At the same time, optimised ride comfort and acoustics enhance the car’s abilities both in everyday driving and over long-distance journeys.

Exceptionally sophisticated chassis components originally designed for the BMW 4 Series models and adapted specially for the new BMW 2 Series Coupé ensure supreme driveability. The two-joint spring strut front axle and five-link rear axle were designed to minimise weight and optimise rigidity. Standard-fitted lift-related dampers enhance both the sporting ability of the new car and its ride comfort. Depending on the spring travel, these provide extra damping to control body movement when driving over large bumps and inhibit excessive dives. The system reacts to minor imperfections in the road surface, meanwhile, with low damping forces that produce high levels of comfort.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé enhances safety and comfort with a significantly expanded selection of driver assistance systems compared with the predecessor model. Among the systems available as options are the Driving Assistant with Lane Change Warning, Rear Collision Prevention and rear crossing traffic warning, Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function (including manual Speed Limit Assist), Park Distance Control, the Reversing Assistant, the Reversing Assist Camera, Surround View and Remote 3D View. New for the BMW 2 Series Coupé is the BMW Head-Up Display – which projects driving-related information onto the windscreen – and the BMW Drive Recorder.
