Sonos Foam Wireless Speakers Review

The people of Planet World delivered the Sonos speakers for me to review I didn’t have any expectations of what to expect so I posted it on social media to get at least some feedback from those who have used the speakers before so I know what to expect. The feedback was great and everyone spoke about the good quality sound you will get from Sonos, also there were those who spoke about that it’s not cheap either then I checked the price which is between R3000 or R4000 depending on where you buy it.

Design

The Sonos foam speaker is has a rectangular shape that’s curved on the edges, slim and thoughtful form blends beautifully into your home, whilst the lightweight ergonomic design makes it easy to handle. The speaker design reminds me of the Apple minimalistic design that they always take, which is good because less is more. What is also interesting about the design is the name Sonos, whichever way you look at it the name looks the same, which is very smart from Sonos. Solidly constructed and rated IP67, Roam is drop-resistant, waterproof up to three feet for 30 minutes, impervious to dust, and ready for any adventure. When positioned vertically, Roam has a minimal footprint, and the rounded triangular shape can tuck neatly into a corner anywhere space is at a premium. Lay it horizontally for stability on uneven ground and Roam subtly directs the sound upwards in the direction of your ears for a better listening experience. Powered by a built-in rechargeable battery, Roam is ready to soundtrack your day, whether you want to unwind in the garden or escape to the backwoods.

Sound

Music is important to me and hearing music the way the artist made is crucial, therefore investing in good earphones or speakers makes sense. I have had this speaker for 1 and a couple of pf days and now I use my earphones even less because there is no need, I have a portable speaker that can follow me anywhere. Precision-engineered acoustics deliver the clarity, depth, and fullness you would expect from a much larger speaker. Using automatic Trueplay™ tuning, Roam smartly adapts to your surroundings and whatever you’re listening to for sound that’s astonishingly detailed and perfectly balanced.

App + Features

Sonos has an app that you use when you need to set up the speaker, at first I really didn’t understand why you need an app for a speaker then I started playing around with the speaker and it started making sense, why you need the app. The app offers much more and it’s an eco-system for the speaker and other devices you might wanna add from Sonos in the future. I think if you are going to build a smart home then it will make sense even more. Sonos reminds me a lot f Apple’s eco-system – it’s not difficult to see them adding smart TVs, phones, and appliances in the future. Use the app to browse and search across all your services, save favourites, set alarms, and discover new music on Sonos Radio. Get hands-free help from Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Just ask to play music, check the news, control your smart home devices. Press the buttons on Roam to play, pause, adjust the volume, skip, replay, turn off the microphones and manually pair a Bluetooth device. Another impressive feature is the radio on the app, now I can listen to local radio stations through the app, which means I can delete all the other apps that are not as great. You can also listen to other radio stations, podcasts, or news from other countries, which makes things easy to listen to while working. Music from Apple Music, Spotify, and SoundCloud can be linked to your Sonos account and therefore you can have all your music on one app. The good thing about the app is that you have a smart home it encourages you to get more products from Sonos.

Setting Up

Now, this is a section where Sonos needs to work on because it’s one hell of a mission to set up these speakers but once you are set up everything is smooth sailing. You need to download the app and link it to your phone while you are on the same Wi-Fi network. You also need to register on the Sonos network website and then go back to the app to finish off the setup.  Once that is done everything works seamlessly and you can enjoy the sounds that come off your new Sonos speakers.
