Dave Chappelle has announced his sixth Netflix stand-up special, ‘The Closer’, which is set to release On 5 October. The comedy special will be directed by Emmy-winning director Stan Lathan, who has directed all of Chapelle’s previous Netflix projects. The stand-up will complete the comedian’s body of work that includes The Age of Spin, Deep in the Heart of Texas, Equanimity, The Bird Revelation, and Sticks & Stones.
“Comedians have a responsibility to speak recklessly,” Chappelle states in the teaser’s opening. “Sometimes the funniest thing to say is mean. Remember, I’m not saying it to be mean: I’m saying it because it’s funny.” The visual then cuts between a series of the comedian’s best moments from his previous five specials.
Chappelle has taken home three Emmy awards for his Netflix comedy specials, two for Sticks & Stones in 2020 and one for Equanimity in 2018. Additionally, the comedian received two Emmy awards for his appearances as host on Saturday Night Live in 2017 and 2021. Chappelle has also won three Grammy awards for his Netflix specials The Age of Spin, Equanimity & The Bird Revelation, and Sticks & Stones.
