The Anthology of Breaking: Praise Be

***

There is a universe where you exist better

You have loving parents

You are not neglected

Your mother does not call you a demon

Your father does not leave

You are not in pain

Praise be

Dear God. Please!

Please God. Let him be the one. Let him be my dream.

I didn’t want to stop talking to him. I just didn’t want it to end.

He looked at me with cautious yet hopeful prayers the entire three hours of the conversation.

I am cautiously excited.

Every time that I’ve been excited about a man, I have been shattered.

Every time that I have been hopeful and full of faith, my hope and faith have risen against me, to break me.

My love has torn me apart.

Not this time, God.

Not this man, God.

Let this be my turn.

Let him be the prize.

Let him be the reward for my faith, my endurance.

Please God, let him be my dream.
