It’s A New Dawn …

Change comes in all different shapes and sizes and like Oprah said if you listen to the whispers of your life you will understand where your life is trying to take you therefore you should well prepared. I have been going through changes, big changes and subtle changes. While others are hard not to miss, others take time to understand – business and personal.

Your life is speaking to you all around, from the time you wake up in the morning, in every single experience that’s coming into your personal space. All of those experiences are speaking to you. They’re telling you something about your life and about your circumstances. – Oprah

I have known Kojo Baffoe for the longest time now since I started pursuing this magazine dream. He is also one of the few people who has seen the progression of my magazine journey. I appreciate his honesty and knowledge that he has with life as a man, father and husband – one does try to learn from him as much as possible. When he invited me to a dinner that he had collaborated with Rolls Royce with, I couldn’t say no to the invitation.

Kojo asked me if I could meet him at Kaya FM around 6:30 pm and we will drive out together to Melrose Arch for the dinner. I discover that we will be driving in the latest Rolls Royce Dawn Convertible from Rosebank to Melrose Arch – now I’m excited and clearly, it’s going to be a great evening. In the RR Dawn its Kojo Baffoe driving and next to him Greg Maloka and at the back I am sitting next to Gerrad Foster. I am the youngest one in the car and I am sitting in the same car as these great men who have done so much in their lives and careers. The one thing that comes to mind while we are driving to Melrose Arch is that I am living my dreams. How am I in this car that cost 8 Million rands, with these distinguished gentlemen, who am I?

We arrive at Melrose and the street is closed off just for us, by now I’m thinking is this how the other half lives? We arrive at The Vault store and there is a set up just for us outside the store. There were other gentlemen waiting for us at the venue, Cognac and cigars was waiting there for us to indulge at our arrival. As one would – I introduce myself to the other gentlemen and we did a mini photo shoot with the car. I got my shoes shined, while drinking Martell cognac with a very nice cigar on my hand – this is becoming a perfect night that I didn’t expect but I am grateful for. As my shoes are getting shone, I reflect about what is my life whispering to me at this point, what is God saying to me and where I should go.

We eventually went inside The Vault to have dinner with everyone and I particularly loved the conversations that was had at the table, I personally didn’t say much I was listening most of the time, listening to the knowledge that was shared amongst black men, for me it was a perfect night. Everything else that I have been going through started to make sense, I am finally understanding the whispers of my life.

We just moved offices in Rosebank, we are opposite Kena Media who have been very supportive of Marvin since the beginning and when no one did. On the other opposite is kaya FM whom we have done work for in the past and they are one of the most progressive radio stations in the country. Diagonally opposite is your Marble, Mesh and other stores I haven’t explored yet. You are surrounded by amazing people and business that are similar or have similar vision to yours and you just moved in – it’s not a coincidence, its destiny. We just got Vaseline for men as a partner as well and many more partnerships are coming, you can feel it this is a good place to be.

Our offices are on Jan Smuts road, in Rosebank the hub of media or what it used to be. If you have been to Rosebank lately you will realize that its bubbling under, something is happening but I don’t know what it is but it feels good – it’s not Sandton, it’s not Melrose Arch, it’s just different – its Rosebank. The area makes sense for Marvin, it makes sense why we are there now and it will make even better sense later as we grow.

I am listening to the whispers of my life and the one thing that keeps on popping up is that it’s a new dawn, new beginnings, new era and you are right where you need to be.
