Dr. Esther Mahlangu Adds Her Touch to Rolls-Royce Phantom

The talented Dr. Esther Mahlangu continues to create her aesthetically pleasing contemporary Ndebele heritage-inspired artwork that has become internationally known. She has recently been commissioned by the British luxury vehicle brand, Rolls-Royce to add her unique touch to the new Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Dr. Mahlangu is the first South African artist to be commissioned to create a painting for Rolls-Royce Phantom. The ‘Mahlangu’ Phantom will be unveiled this art month at The Melrose Gallery at One&Only, Cape Town, where it will be on display from 13 to 16 February.

Dr. Mahlangu is no stranger to creating artwork for vehicle brands; 26 years ago, she became the first woman to design artwork on a BMW 525i Sedan, turning the vehicle into a unique, colourful moving piece of art. In 2016, the brand commissioned her once again to refine a BMW 7 Series, which was displayed at the Frieze Art Fair, taking place in London that same year. Alongside the BMW 7 Series, the original BMW 525i Art Car was also part of the exhibition.
