Award winning actor, filmmaker and producer – Thapelo Mokoena, is introducing a series of talks that will empower future stars by guiding their thinking and approach to the entertainment industry. The talks which are aimed at equipping budding, aspiring and student actors with the right technical know-how, on getting that first acting or presenting booking will take place in Johannesburg on the 28^th of October 2017.

Book Your 1^st Gig will be the 1^st in a series of seminars which will be rolled out across the country, to provide artists with the necessary tools and strategies on how to bag that sought after first acting or presenting job. The first series of talks and seminars will unpack the entertainment industry from agents, to television and theatre. The powerful and interactive two-hour talk will consist of different segments, re-enactments, keynote speakers and tons of engagement with the audience.

 

“What I have learned over the past years is that there is a great need for new talent to learn the business,” said Thapelo Mokoena. “Every established actor or presenter is often asked for “on the go advice” on how to make it by aspiring artists, but they hardly have enough time to provide the information. As a result, we decided to create a platform that will allow for the transfer of information in a more formalised and engaging way, to benefit these would-be artists,” he added.

The seminars will be open to anyone who thinks they have what it takes to make it into the entertainment industry, whether one is a trained actor or someone sitting at home with a burning desire to be an artist. The sessions will be facilitated by some of South Africa’s most sought-after actors, agents and producers and will provide practical scenarios as well as insight and experience from this esteemed panel of coaches.

“At the end of the session each artist will walk away with a perspective from different role players in the casting value chain. The type of feedback and counsel they will never get after an audition, the objective is to have each artist walking away feeling ready for their next opportunity,” concluded Thapelo Mokoena
